An artificial tooth root, made mostly of bio-compatible titanium (a material that fuses into bone), is surgically attached to your jawbone to help replace missing teeth. Once that is done, it establishes a strong foundation for a new artificial tooth to be placed above it, be it a crown, bridge, or denture.
What the result looks like: A tooth or several that look, feel, and function just like your natural teeth.
There is a variety of dental implants, each better suited for different needs and jaw structures.

Initial Consultation
Our implant dentist evaluates many factors like oral health, jawbone density, and medical history. Following this, a personalised treatment plan is created.
Implant Placement
Sedation is administered for this minor surgical procedure. The dental implant is placed into your jawbone. It may sound daunting, but most of our patients describe this as a painless procedure.
Healing and Fusion
Over the next 3 to 6 months, the dental implant naturally fuses into your bone. Your temporary tooth is placed over the foundation during this period.
Tooth Placement
Once healing is complete, a small connector piece called an abutment is attached to the implant. Finally, a custom-made dental crown, dental bridge, or denture is fitted!
Since this is a minor surgical procedure, sedation is administered to ensure that you don’t feel any pain. Patients at our Dental Practice in Birmingham are surprised by how easy-going the procedure is, and any post-operation pain can simply be relieved using typical painkillers.
Most go back to their day-to-day lives a couple of days after the implant. The procedure may sound daunting, but it is anything but that if you have the right dentists supervising your procedures, like we do at Hilltop Dental.

FAQs
Most patients experience minimal discomfort during the implant procedure. We use local anesthesia to numb the area, and many patients report that it’s less painful than a tooth extraction. After the procedure, any mild discomfort can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain relief.
The implant process typically takes several months, depending on individual healing times and whether bone grafting is needed. Generally, the implant fuses with the jawbone over 3 – 6 months, after which the final crown can be placed for a fully restored smile.
Most adults with good oral health and adequate bone density are candidates for dental implants. During your consultation, we’ll evaluate your unique needs and discuss any factors that could affect your candidacy, ensuring implants are the right choice for you.
Dental implants have a success rate of 95-98% when cared for properly. They’re designed to be a lasting solution, but maintaining good oral hygiene and attending regular dental check-ups are key to their longevity.
Yes, dental implants are custom-designed to match your natural teeth in shape, color, and function. Once in place, implants look, feel, and perform just like natural teeth, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile with full confidence.
